French Bulldog
Originally considered as Toy Bulldogs, the French Bulldog was popularized in France during the mid-19th century. Disenfranchised English lacemakers emigrating to the country made the breed popular before they found their way into the hearts of Americans.
The French Bulldog is characterized by its signature “bat ears”, short muzzle and small stocky frame. The breed can have various coat colours and is a quiet, well-mannered dog. The French Bulldog is known as the clown in a philosopher’s suit due to its silly personality clothed in a distinguished gait. Bred for companionship, this dog requires close human contact making the Frenchie a great lap dog.
French Bulldogs have difficulty in hot and humid weather, and are not great swimmers. They might also snort or snore due to their short nose. They should not be left to their own devices outdoors, but do require daily walks and can be athletic.
