Happy Thanksgiving Canada
This weekend we are celebrating Thanksgiving here in Canada. On January 31, 1957, our Canadian Thanksgiving was proclaimed “A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed.” It falls on the second Monday of October.
I have a lot to be thankful for.
I just got back from a 10-day European sales trip, including a series of meetings in beautiful Cannes, France. Last Saturday night, Cannes was hit by a terrible storm and flash floods. Apparently 20 people died and there was quite a lot of damage. We had no power for a few hours and no internet for 5 days which was incredibly frustrating. I had trouble getting out as most trains were cancelled and the train station was trashed. I am very thankful that I spent the worst part of the storm safe and relatively dry in a restaurant with good friends.
I survived with only temporary inconveniences. Others were not as lucky.
I arrived home to Kilo the Pug. He was so happy to see me, he literally did backflips. I am very thankful for his love.
My husband and younger daughter appeared later and seemed quite pleased to see me too. My husband had a recent health scare but has recovered. My parents messaged from Australia and my other daughter from Chile. I am very thankful for my family.
We are all happy and healthy at the moment and Thanksgiving is a wonderful reminder to take the time to appreciate life.
I cooked a delicious dinner last night with a traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, mashed pumpkin, corn, peas, 2 types of stuffing and delicious gravy (gluten free). I have quite a few pumpkin recipes I make for Kilo the Pug. He loves turkey, potatoes and peas as well. I confess that I did share a little food with him at the table (I was careful not to give him any onion, nutmeg or skin/fat).
My husband had the television on in the corner and the Blue Jays won their Baseball Playoff Game. He was very thankful.
October is also Adopt A Shelter Dog Month.
In honour of thanksgiving, I am working on some fundraising ideas for dog rescue organisations and shelters.
What are you thankful for?
