Top 13 Holiday Movies To Watch With Your Dog
The first snowfall, the cold weather, a warm fire, and tiny white twinkling lights never fail to get me in the mood for Holiday Movies.
There is nothing better than curling up on the sofa with a big bowl of snacks, your favorite soft blanket, and of course, your dog to enjoy these tried and true classic Christmas Films. I have been snuggling with Kilo the Pug binge watching at every opportunity. I say it is in the name of research as we are producing our own Holiday Movie “Pippy Love” about a romance and a rescue like Kilo, but let’s be honest, I do it every Christmas. Here are a few of my favorites- you’ll notice many include dogs.
Love Actually (2003)
Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: LOVE.
The star-studded cast for this popular includes my crush Hugh Grant, as well as Liam Neeson, Martin Freeman, Keira Knightley, Bill Nighy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Billy Bob Thornton and Andrew Lincoln. It’s such a great movie in this genre and always gets me in the holiday spirit and makes me laugh.
Basically, I love any movie with Hugh Grant including other great romantic comedies like Four Weddings and A Funeral, About A Boy, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones’ Diary.
The Holiday (2006)
My daughters and I watch this adorable chick flic every year without fail. Two women with relationship issues from opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, temporarily exchange homes in hopes to escape heartbreak. They end up finding love and friendship. Predictable, but hopelessly romantic and lots of laughs! Who could resist the amazing talent (and good looks LOL) of Jude Law, Jack Black, Cameron Dias and Kate Winslet.
I often watch Titanic with Kate Winslet again even though it is not strictly a Holiday movie and also Something About Mary with Cameron Dias.
You’ve Got Mail (1998)
Two bookstore owners united through e-mail and with help form an adorable golden retriever. You can’t deny how well the romantic coupling of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who had appeared together previously in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and Sleepless in Seattle (1993) is on screen.
A Belle for Christmas (2014)
When two siblings discover their newly adopted puppy, Belle, has been nabbed by the beautiful gold digger who’s dating their widowed dad on Christmas Eve, the kids recruit their neighborhood friends and set out on an adventurous rescue mission to save her. We loved seeing our friend Haylie Duff in this one and who can resist a cute puppy story.
3 Holiday Tails (2011)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_vS9Fkr9lM
Rod and Katherine Wright are enjoying their retirement in Florida – or so they’re telling each other. At least they’ve made friends with their new neighbor Lisa, who’s has a golden retriever named Jake. But when Jake and the puppies take off during a walk with Lisa and interrupt a wedding proposal, Lisa is mortified to discover the proposer is none other than her lifelong-friend-turned-boyfriend-turned-ex, David. Everyone can see that they are meant to be together, except for David and Lisa. With a little help from Rod and Katherine and four lovable pups, it’s sure to be a Christmas to remember.
Serendipity (2001)
admittedly this may by one of the cheesiest of all holiday flicks – but I love it and it’s a classic for the Holidays! Two people meet while shopping for Christmas presents for their spouses when they meet over a pair of gloves and fall in love at first sight with each other. They test fate by splitting up to see if destiny would bring them back together. Years go by and they get close to meeting a number of times but as the story unfolds on a whirlwind romantic adventure its fate that finally brings them together.
A Dog Walkers Christmas Tale (2015)
Luce has no choice but to accept a dog walking job for the Brandts and while reluctantly agreeing to walk Hank, in a nearby dog park she meets some of the dog owners, including exasperating dog walker Dean. She learns that there are plans to create a spa on the dog park land. When Dean finds out about these plans, they are at odds on how to stop the development. But as Luce spends more time with Hank and Dean, she starts to see the park in a different light. Stuck having to choose between the Brandts or Dean, it’s up to Luce to decide if she’ll be able to save the dog park by Christmas.
The 12 Dogs of Christmas (2005)
In this film dogs are banned from the town in a story set during Christmas time in 1930’s Pittsburgh. A young girl goes to great lengths to change people’s hearts and minds and set up an orphanage for dogs. Watching this film, you might just want to foster or adopt a dog yourself.
White Christmas (1954)
A classic old Hollywood film filled with music, magic, and romance, White Christmas is the perfect holiday movie! A famous song-and-dance team become romantically involved with sisters who are also performers. Together they must save the Vermont inn in time for Christmas.
A Dog Named Christmas (2009)
Hallmark always delivers on syrupy but adorable holiday movies. Meet the McCray family, who are fostering a golden lab named Christmas for the holidays. Their developmentally-challenged son is determined to prove to his family that he can care for a dog on his own. In his triumph, he inspires his father to love the new member of the family.
The Grinch (2000)
Ron Howard and Brian Grazer bring Whoville and the world’s best-loved grump to life in this hilarious celebration of the true holiday spirit, which stars Jim Carrey. This adaptation of the Grinch had dog lovers focused on his trusty and adorable sidekick Max. Even while his master’s heart is extremely undersized, the loyal dog stays by the Grinch’s side helping him see light. Isn’t that what we all hope for from our pets? Even if we do dress them up as reindeer!

Hi. One of Max’s favorite pastimes is snuggling up beside me on the couch while we watch movies together. His soft, rhythmic breathing and occasional snorts add an adorable touch to our cozy evenings. His loyalty is unwavering, and he makes it evident by following me around the house, his wagging tail a constant reminder of his affection. Max is undeniably a social creature, and he relishes the attention he gets from strangers, often leaning into them for a scratch behind the ears.Grooming services Calgary
