Global Pet Expo is the “is the pet industry’s largest annual trade show featuring the newest, most innovative pet products on the market today.” It is about half a mile to walk from one end to the other with thousands of booths so it can be quite overwhelming, particularly with a badly sprained ankle (I fell on ice walking Kilo the Pug right before I left for Florida GRRR).
I went in this year looking specifically for cool new products at Global Pet Expo 2019 that would be relevant for Kilo the Pug and our lifestyle. Those included training aids and books, health and dental products, mental stimulation (games, toys), treats, CBD, grooming, lifestyle and fun.

New Dog Training Books
Author Larry Kay
I was thrilled to see my talented friend, author, trainer and passionate rescue advocate Larry Kay of Positively Woof.
I filmed an interview and got a signed copy of his new book “The Big Book of Tricks for the Best Dog Ever”.
I’ll post a full review of the book later in April. I have been going through the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Tricks. They are very well explained and laid out. I wish I had this book years ago. I was happy to see my friend and talented trainer Sara Carson quoted. Kilo and I did a course with her so he knows quite a few beginner and intermediate tricks but there are many more to learn in this book. You can buy the book through my Amazon Affiliate Link here:
The Big Book of Tricks for the Best Dog Ever: A Step-by-Step Guide to 118 Amazing Tricks and Stunts
I also grabbed a quick interview at the Blue-9 Pet products booth where Larry was based. I love their platforms and such a cute well trained pup. More later this month.
Author Brandon McMillan
I was also very pleased to see celebrity trainer, rescue advocate and super nice guy Brandon McMillan again, this time at the Pet Product News booth.
Last year I talked to him about Kilo the Pug and Petmate sent me his training aids which have been amazing. You can see my review post here.

This time he gave me a copy of his new book Lucky Dog Lessons: Train Your Dog in 7 Days. I am loving it and hope to use the lessons on Kilo the Pug.The anecdotes are so interesting. Full review coming soon. You can buy a copy though my Amazon Affiliate Link here:

I also got a copy of the new book Cat Daddy from Jackson Galaxy and Cat Genie (a new product he endorses for cat litter which looks excellent for cat owners).
Purina Products and Event
The puppies at the Purina booth always make me smile. What a highlight seeing all their great new dog products including treats and wet and dry food. I brought home a few of the treats and wet food samples for Kilo the Pug to try which made him extremely happy!
Dr Evan Antin Honored at Purina Press Event
Purina also hosted a fabulous press event to honour Dr. Evan Antin, host of Evan Goes Wild on Animal Planet, for his work in veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation.
TugNBrush
I think my favorite new product was the TugNBrush for dogs that don’t like having their teeth brushed but do like playing tug.
Kilo HATES having his teeth brushed so I can’t wait to try this little tug toy with a built in brush system when it launches. See their Kickstarter campaign here.
Dog Boredom Buster Games from iFetch
I loved the stylish digging game with layers of mats. Kilo the Pug would really enjoy that. He loves digging and solving puzzles as long as there are treats involved. It would keep him busy for quite a while with all the different little hiding spots and the ability to flip them and longer-term add more.
You Can order this great game through my Affiliate Link here iFetch Q-100 Idig Digging Toy, One Size, Blue/White
There was also another very cool ball toss game but Kilo is not a great ball chaser on his own.
Kong Products
Kilo loves Kong products, especially stuffed small original Kongs and certain of their soft plush toys. They had an interesting new treat attachment for the traditional Kong and a Wubba toy. Kilo will get to try the treat Kong and I gave the Wubba to a friend with a new high enregy young dog that loves retrieving.
Dog Products for Tick and Flea Season
Tick and Flea Season is starting in Toronto in April so time to get prepared. I will be speaking to my vet about Heartworm, Ticks and Fleas next week. See here for more tips to protect your dog during flea and tick season.
I found the environmentally friendly device SONICGUARD, which emits a series of ultrasonic pulses imperceptible to humans and pets but not to ticks and fleas! It easily attaches to collars and provides up to 12 months of protection. Apparently it is extremely successful and well-tested in Europe so I plan to check out the research and try it on Kilo The Pug.
Oxyfresh
I also brought home a flea shampoo and samples from Oxyfresh on the recommendation of my friend Dana. They seem like very nice people so looking forward to trying the products.
Chews and Treats
Realtree Naturals
Realtree’s Naturals are made by our trusted friends at Eurocan/Bullwrinkles using wholesome and natural ingredients with great flavour and crunch. They are loaded with Omega fatty acids to keep your dog’s skin and coat shiny. Old-school processes like slow-roasting and wood-smoking are merged with the latest in food-safety standards to make all-natural limited-ingredient chews and treats with wellness benefits. Kilo is looking forward to trying some and doing a full review.
Wonder Stixx
I was intrigued by new Wonder Stixx by Petmate-minced American beef hide chews that are apparently easy/safe to digest (unlike rawhide) , tasty, high in protein and grain/gluten-free.
Puppy Cake
Puppy Cake had Ice Cream mix, Cookie Mix and Cake Mix for dogs as well as a cool new bone-shaped cake pan.
I brought home some Cookie Mix to try.
Bosco N Roxy’s
Loved seeing Canadian pals from Bosco and Roxy’s gourmet bakery who not only have a fabulous range of cookies, frozen goods and cakes but are also supporting Igor and Zombie Pug’s fundraiser for PugALug Pug Rescue later this month.
Whimzees
I had a great time checking out the new Whimzee products with Canadian Influencers Amy (Pet Guide) and Bianca (Canine Culture and Woofstock)
CBD Oils, Topicals and Treats
Honest Paws
The award for best Press Package at Global I saw goes to Honest Paws. Full review coming soon.
Treatibles
TrueLeaf
I attended a great presentation at the TrueLeaf booth on the benefits of CBD and other products. Details to come.
Pet Relief
Pet Relief had a beautiful booth with some great new products and very helpful staff. More info coming.
I actually tried the CannaCare topical on my own badly sprained ankle and it appeared to help a little with inflammation (Thank you so much!!). It also stopped an insect bite from itching. I was very impressed and hope to be able to purchase in Canada for Kilo and I soon.
Health
I did an interview on some fascinating studies on the benefits of various herbal products.
I also saw interesting innovative new product venture pitches on sustainable food sources and a vet network.
Puppy Party Stuff and Toys
Our friends at MultiPet had an adorable new bunny plush – the ears pop up when the pup chews down. Hope they send one for Kilo and Ms Charmin who are big fans of their plush line.
I found this new line of party products from Huxley & Kent adorable and wish they had given me some samples to do a video. They are perfect for a foodie like Kilo the Pug or for Kids’ Pet Club.
I also liked all the unicorns and other soft colourful and pastel products from both Zippy Paws and from our Canadian friends at FouFou in their new FouFit line.
Travel and Outdoors
As more millennials take their dogs everywhere with them, there were more products for having fun and traveling with your dog.
DOOG Products
I want the pop up pool and the cooling pup tent from my Australian friends at DOOG. They have such innovative products for summer and any squishy face breed like Kilo the Pug would especially benefit from the patented technology that keeps them cool in the sun. They also just launched a line of products using Aboriginal artwork which looked very cool.
Pet Pail – Winner of the New Products Showcase for Dogs- great for travelling.
This little pail was beautifully made and super efficient for travelling with your dog. Interview video to come.
Sleepy Pod
Sleepy Pod is always a favorite. The products and the people are so nice. Unfortunately Kilo the Pug does not quite fit in the Pod without complaint but might try the newest carrier.
Petique Line for Pug Lovers
Knowing my passion for pugs, my friend Dana showed me this line from Petique which I loved.
Grooming
Thank you so much for the amazing nail clippers. Kilo and I needed them.
Fashion
Kilo hates wearing clothes but Ms Charmin and Linzy seem to enjoy so I have to say I loved this line from Petrageous Designs with Canadian wildlife and adorable PJs.
Superpower Dogs Movie presented by Mars Pet Food
I was thrilled to see Mars supporting a movie highlighting amazing dogs and the bond with humans. “Superpower Dogs” is an immersive 3D giant screen IMAX® film and educational experience that celebrates the amazing true stories of dogs with extraordinary abilities who save lives and make the world a better place.
MARS do so much work supporting service dogs and rescues but rarely share the stories.
HABRI
I stopped by the HABRI booth to see their latest research on the human animal bond and to get a cuddle and hear about the wonderful work of the therapy dogs they partnered with.
Happy-Go-Doodle says
Thanks for such a thorough overview! Enjoyed your review along with great pics!
Holly says
I was expanding and reading between the lines to see if I could find cat stuff but for my traveling cat I want that pet pail! And the cooling tech. And he might be happier with some of those sweaters than he is with his bulky winter coat.
Sherri says
On of these days I’ll get to global – thanks for the extensive list. I need the DOOG sun sheild for my dog.
