HAPPY CANADA DAY on July 1st
History of Canada Day
Canada’s national holiday is celebrated on July 1. The British North America Act (today known as the Constitution Act) created Canada on July 1, 1867. It united three colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces, a single country called Canada within the British Empire.
It’s been a day of celebration and festivities since 1868. Canadians across the country and around the world show their pride in their history, culture and achievements.
Kilo is ready for our backyard barbie. I don’t think he’ll like the fireworks in the parks nearby. We’ll walk early and he’ll be safely inside with treats and toys. He is also celebrating the launch of Magic Mike XXL and his new dance video Magic Mutt (funds from YouTube will go to his rescue):
Sing The Canadian National Anthem
“O Canada” is the national anthem of Canada. Calixa Lavallée wrote the music in 1880 for a patriotic poem composed by poet and judge Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. “O Canada” officially became Canada’s singular national anthem in 1980, when the Act of Parliament making it so received Royal Assent. It became effective on July 1 as part of that year’s Dominion Day celebrations.
Get out with your dogs and Sing Along to O Canada with Louie in this video (in loving memory- it was his favourite song).
Here are the lyrics:
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
National holidays like July 1st (Canada) and July 4th (US) can be dangerous or frightening for pets. Keep them safe by keeping them inside and distracted.

Pamela says
As someone who was unimpressed by the first Magic Mke (I think we turned it off a few minutes in), it would be far better with dogs. I’d be far more likely to enjoy Kilo flipping around on stage than Channing Tatum.
Hope you enjoyed Canada Day and didn’t find the fireworks too bothersome.
