Clear the Shelters A Clear Success in 2016
With millions of pets still going into shelters each year, we love to highlight successful adoption events and creative initiatives as part of our #RescuesRock campaign.
On Saturday, July 23, over 680 shelters across the United States and Puerto Rico teamed up for the second year with over 40 NBC Owned Television Stations and Telemundo for Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive that helps find loving homes for animals in need. Last year Almost 20,000 pets found their forever homes in a single day.
This year, the NBC Online Tracker is showing over 45,000 animals adopted this month.
“Our entire division of NECN, Telemundo and NBC stations and our corporate staff are overwhelmed and thrilled with the extraordinary results of this year’s Clear The Shelters event,” said Valari Staab, the president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. “We want to thank all of our shelters, NBC and Telemundo affiliates that joined us this year and our partners, including Petco and VIP Petcare. Together, we emptied at least 13 shelters and found more than 45,000 animals new loving homes.”
Below, Talk Stoop’s Cat Greenleaf talks with Kelly Burke from TheDodo.com, the largest publisher of animal content on social media (500 million video views last month). They discuss what makes for the most compelling stories (and this may surprise you), and their partnership with NBC for Clear the Shelters.
The Muncie Animal Shelter, responsible for the successful Pokemon Go Dog Walking initiative, was one of the shelters participating in the Clear the Shelters event. There was NO ADOPTION FEE – you could visit the shelter and pay only a $10 registration fee per pet.
We liked the fact that, as with any of their adoptions, if you already had a dog and were looking to increase your family, a “meet and greet” in the play yard was strongly suggested. Also, if renting your home, proof that your landlord was pet-friendly was required.
“Empty cages!” the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter wrote on Facebook as they Cleared their Shelter and found forever homes for deserving animals.
