What Dogs are Wearing this Halloween At Dog-Friendly Events in Toronto

Happy Halloween!

Kilo the Pug and I had a great weekend checking out some amazing dog-friendly events happening in our area. Our first stop was the Toronto Pug Grumble Howl-O-Ween Pug Meetup on Saturday.

Howloween Unleashed

The party began at Unleashed in the City where there was a costume contest with special prizes, a photo booth by Pete Thorne, amazing giveaways and more. Then there was the costume parade where all the pugs got to show off their costumes as they walked to “the Dog Bowl” in Trinity Bellwoods. We went there first by mistake then my knees couldn’t take the walk so we headed off to the next event. I was thrilled to reconnect with an old friend who is volunteering with rescues through @partygirlproject on Facebook and Instagram

It was great to see such a big turn our of Pugs as well as mixes such as Buggs, Chugs, Frugs, Jugs, Puggles and Muggles. Other dog breeds also came out to show their support.

Purina PawsWay Halloween Party

Our second stop this weekend was the annual Purina PawsWay Halloween Party. Each year they hold a celebration at the center with prizes and fun for both people and dogs -it’s perfect for families. There must have been nearly 100 dogs and owners that walked the red carpet in the costume contest. It must have been a very hard choice for the judges as everyone looked amazing. I loved Linzy’s homemade spider costume, and there were costumes inspired by food (like Marcy and Sweetie), Entertainment (Disney stars, superheroes, and minions were popular), and lifestyle (adorable surfer dudes and teddy bears).

It was great to see our pals Reta and Linzy (who was dressed in a homemade spider costume) and Marcy with Sweetie (ketchup and hot dog). Both dog’s costumes were so funny and really adorable.

All the dogs were dressed to impress and it was inspiring to see so many creative costumes.

First place went to this “Where’s Waldo” Duo- very hard to catch a good photo as they were always on the move.

Keep Your Dog Safe and Happy on Halloween

Make this Hallows Eve fun for both of you. Always choose pet clothing that is safe and comfortable for your dog to wear. Make sure your dog can easily stand, sit, lie down, walk, and use the bathroom at any time while in costume. Always double check f there are things sewn onto the outfit, your pet may try to eat them and can get really sick. If your pet doesn’t like getting dressed up, don’t force him or her. Kilo the pug is not a fan of putting his paws through tight sleeves or wearing much so he often just has loose soft things or a simple bandana or collar or harness or vest instead.

Stay safe this Halloween by making sure your dog doesn’t escape or ingest anything dangerous like chocolate or candy, decorations, or costume pieces. Always contact a vet or the ASPCA Hotline immediately if they do. Halloween is the second most common time for dogs to get lost after July 4th and a common time for poisoning to occur.

Don’t leave your pet unsupervised or in a high traffic area.
I bet we see a few sports costumes in Toronto. Just be careful with the Halloween treats and chips. Do not leave snacks within reach. Kilo will steal chips and chocolates, wrapper and all.
Make sure your dog can’t get out the front door while handing out candy.
Make sure tags are up-to-date, detailed and on.
Keep them on a leash during Halloween!
