Resolutions 2015
Now that 2014 has wrapped with joyous feasts and festivities, it’s time for New Year’s Resolutions. 2015 is a fresh start, and we are able to reflect on the past year, then set goals and make changes for the upcoming 12 months. Here’s a list of our New Year’s Resolutions for 2015. Maybe they will inspire you?
Post your Resolutions in the comments below. Of course this also includes our furry friends.
1. Spend More Time With Friends and Family
Life, friends and family are precious gifts and it is frightening how quickly they can be taken away. A lack of social bonds can damage your health as much as alcohol abuse and smoking, and even more than obesity and lack of exercise, a 2010 study in the journalPLoS Medicine suggests. We live in an era where it’s possible to catch up easily and even simultaneously in Toronto, Sydney, New York, LA, London, Rio and Santiago, so we don’t want to waste a minute. We had a few tragic reminders over the holidays that life can be suddenly cut short thanks to cancer or car accidents. We plan to treasure our friends and family (2 and 4 legged), and enjoy as much time as possible with them, both in person and online. We also plan to find more friends for Kilo and keep working on his socialization. He will try to bark and snarl less at strangers and other dogs.
2. Lose A Few Pounds or Kilos
The fact that this is one of the most popular resolutions every year shows just how difficult it is to commit to. Kilo and I each gained a few kilos or pounds over Christmas so we need to get back in shape. Weighing yourself, exercising regularly, cutting calories and using a food journal to keep track of what you eat are great ways to help. Kilo will also try to steal less food and beg less when we are eating, or any time really (he is always hungry).
3. Adopt Kilo the Rescue Pug
After months of fostering the adorable and vivacious Kilo from Homeward Bound Rescue my family has decided to keep him. I guess starting off a new year with a fail isn’t so bad if it’s a foster fail.
If you or someone you know is considering adopting, check out our breed library to help make an informed decision before heading to a local animal shelter or online on a site like pet finder .
4. Drink More Water
8 glasses a day seems like an easy enough goal and the benefits of water are endless. Bottoms Up!
5. Make and Save Money
Of course, it’s not what’s in your pocket but what’s in your heart that matters, but we would like to make money doing what we love, then save some of it. Small lifestyle changes everyday can really add up. Walking or riding a bike to work, not having a Latte out everyday, bringing lunches to work and only shopping with a grocery list and not when hungry are just a few tips.
6. Less Stress
A little pressure now and then is fine. In fact, we find we work better under pressure. However chronic stress due to long work hours, little sleep, no exercise, poor diet, and no play time can increase your risk of or worsen insomnia, depression, obesity, heart disease and more. Taking Kilo for a walk in the park and patting him as he looks up lovingly with his big eyes is an incredibly efficient way to de-stress. We will also be looking for ways to reduce Kilo’s anxiety issues.
7. More Rest
We can’t believe we ever fought our parents on going to bed. A good night’s rest can do wonders for your mood and appearance. Getting those precious 8 hours a night is crucial. Lack of sleep has been linked to health issues such as a higher risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.
8. Travel More
The best way to get out of a rut or familiar daily routine is to have a little adventure. We are planning trips to NATPE and Kidscreen Summit in Miami, friends in LA, family in Sydney and BlogPaws in Nashville in 2015.
9. Learn Something New
Pick up a new hobby or sport. It’s great for your mind and body to constantly challenge yourself so grab a guitar or some knitting needles or golf clubs and learn a new skill. Dog trick training has been a fun new activity and Kilo has learned so many tricks in such a short period of time, he’s been very inspirational for us.
10. Put Health First and Smile More
We would like to focus on having an overall healthy, happy lifestyle. Yes drinking more water, sleeping more and losing weight will help, but a more positive outlook would be a great accomplishment for 2015. We are pretty positive people at Talent Hounds, and we get to work with and look at puppies and dogs all day, but it’s a good idea to try to smile more and keep happy and optimistic.
