Behind the Scenes at the Toronto Humane Society. We had such a good day talking to the President of the Toronto Humane Society Barbara Steinhoff and meeting gorgeous adoptable Dogs.
The Toronto Humane Society’s mission statement is to promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty and suffering. We were really impressed with the facility and the attitude of everyone we met there.
We all agree Rescue Dogs Rock- Opt to Adopt Don’t Shop! and will be including some of the dogs we met in our Campaign.
We dropped off a donation of delicious treats and chews from Bullwrinkles which will come in handy as they use positive training with all their dogs. We also noticed that Royal Canin generously donates food.
The Society has a modern facility that houses its shelter, clinic and administrative offices. Technological advances such as computerized record-keeping, microchip pet identification and rapid-fire telecommunications systems have enhanced the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of shelter operations. The Society operates as an independent not-for-profit organization supported by donors and members. The THS does not receive government funding.
The Shelter:
The Society provides a desperately needed adoption facility and haven for injured and abandoned animals in the City of Toronto. The injured receive veterinary care, and abandoned animals are given a safe haven 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Immature and/or injured animals are placed in foster care until they are old enough and strong enough to be placed for adoption. Check their website for visiting hours HERE
Additional Services
The Society now offers Training, Volunteer opportunities to walk and even foster dogs (there is a little park behind the facilities where the dogs can get outside), and a Low cost Spay and Neutering Clinic.
